What you need to know about what it means to be in SMCKC

What does SMCKC stand for? The Social Media Club of Kansas City

Are you an affiliate of a national organization? Yes, we are an official chapter of the Social Media Club http://socialmediaclub.org/chapter/kansas-city.

Are there dues? At this time, no. Your club works diligently to provide quality events, education and networking opportunities without charging dues.

However, at some points there will be cover charges for big events to help cover room/food/beverage costs. SMCKC tries very hard to avoid this at all costs. Currently, we are welcoming any types of corporate sponsorships. Let it be known, the power of social media comes into full swing here: gracious members are known to tweet and post to their followers and friends about events and those who made it possible. If you are interested, please contact our President, Joe Cox.

What's in it for me? SMCKC provides multiple events which allows for education, networking and sharing.

Our members also have special opportunities which arise sporadically. For example, we have recently offered special screenings for social media-based movies, VIP NASCAR tickets, discounted rates for conferences and summits.

Naturally, being a member of SMCKC provides ample opportunity to network within your field. We also like to leverage our members who are subject-matter-experts in particular areas of SM. So if you get it, Share it! (and let us know what you want to share!)

Kansas City area social media jobs are also posted on a monthly basis.

Where can you find us? You can follow SMCKC chatter online by searching the #smckc hash tag.

How did we get started? SMCKC was founded back in June 2008 when Ed Roberts sent an email to Zena Weist and Pete Thomas asking if they would like to talk about "rallying the troops" to bring some cohesiveness to all the online activities going on at the time. You can read more about how the initial SMCKC breakfast was planned at: http://edrobertsblog.com/?p=150

What else? There is a monthly breakfast (the first Friday of every month) which takes place at the KC Cafe (1532 Grand Blvd, KC MO). Breakfast is served at 7:30 AM and presentations begin at 8, ending promptly at 9.
